Coming from Australia and living in England, it may seem weird that we're undertaking the surrogacy process in Canada. But for us, it makes sense for so many reasons.
When we started to look around at countries that offered surrogacy, we were keen to do it in a country where there were strong laws that protected the women that became surrogates, and for the children born through surrogacy. When we did our research it wasn't a huge surprise that Canada offered a great legal framework and had experienced organisations that have been helping surrogates and families navigate the whole process.
For us the altruistic nature of surrogacy in Canada was also really important. Having heard the way surrogacy works in some other countries, we were set on making sure our surrogate was well looked after, had access to the best care and support, and was able to get as much out of the experience as we were. It made Canada the obvious choice.
Beyond all that both of us have strong ties to Canada and we just absolutely love the place and the people. Dean has family in Ontario and British Columbia. Josh lived in Vancouver when he was younger. We love all that Canada and its people represent – fairness, equity, openness and inclusion. We are really keen for our children to have a strong and continuing connection with Canada and a relationship with those who gave so much to help them come into the world, part of an extended family.
With all of this, there is just no better place to do a surrogacy journey than in Canada.
If you'd like to chat with us, or have any questions, we'd love to speak with you. Please get in touch.
Love, Josh & Dean
